Emma Watson played a witch in Harry Potter…right? I hope that headline makes sense, but regardless the actress feels like she was above any type of celebrity endorsement deals…until Lancôme came along. Now its like a love potion has been spilled on the two. And maybe it has! Not only is Watson the new face of their fragrance Trésor Midnight Rose (sexy name), but she’s also the face of their entire brand.
What caused Emma Watson to embrase the snakey world of celebrity endorsements? In her words, “It's more interesting to have a genuine involvement with a brand, rather than showing up on the day and looking pretty.” Now I do, 100%, support her statement, but I’m wondering how much input she’ll actually have on this beauty and frangrance line. It’s not likely Emma Watson will have a brand extension or anything beyond what she dispises – a pretty face that’s recognizable in ads. I hope she does get involved and we learn about what type of input she has…but Emma, don’t knock celebrity endorsements. You’re joining an exclusive group that can use their celebrity to promote products and make them relatable to millions of consumers. Be proud of that. With just Lancôme alone, you’re among the ranks of Penélope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Julia Roberts. Not bad for a 21 year old. By the way, she's done previous deals with Burberry so I'm not sure why she knocks celebrity endorsements in the Belfast Telegraph article.
SPOILER ALERT: This "film" is boring. Very boring. Pretty, but boring.
